Computational Thinking with JavaScript 4: Create & Deploy

This fourth and final course is the capstone of the Computational Thinking with JavaScript Specialization. It builds on everything you have learned so far and supports you in designing, implementing, deploying, and reflecting on a complete software project. You will work through the stages of a small‑scale software development process, beginning with identifying requirements and assessing feasibility, and progressing through implementation, deployment, evaluation, and reflection. Using JavaScript, HTML, and a range of libraries, you will develop a larger application of your own choosing, while being encouraged to explore new tools where appropriate. Throughout the course, interaction with peers plays a key role. You will review others’ work, receive feedback on your own project, and reflect on how computational thinking supports effective software design and communication. This course emphasises synthesis, decision‑making, and reflection, bringing the series to a coherent and purposeful conclusion.

Using Video in Social Media Posts with Canva

By the end of this 40-minute project, you will create 5 video-based social media posts using Canva. The posts can be used for Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter as determined in the project. To conclude the project, we will review managing these posts in folders within the web-based Canva platform. Note that videos in these examples will not contain audio, but don’t let that discourage you from incorporating video and audio in your own design time. Note: This course works best for learners who are based in the North America region. We’re currently working on providing the same experience in other regions.

    Java for Android

This MOOC teaches you how to program core features and classes from the Java programming language that are used in Android, which is the dominant platform for developing and deploying mobile device apps. In particular, this MOOC covers key Java programming language features that control the flow of execution through an app (such as Java’s various looping constructs and conditional statements), enable access to structured data (such as Java's built-in arrays and common classes in the Java Collections Framework, such as ArrayList and HashMap), group related operations and data into classes and interfaces (such as Java's primitive and user-defined types, fields, methods, generic parameters, and exceptions), customize the behavior of existing classes via inheritance and polymorphism (such as subclassing and overriding virtual methods). Learners will apply these Java features in the context of core Android components (such as Activities and basic UI elements) by applying common tools (such as Android Studio) needed to develop Java programs and useful Android apps. Learners will work on several hands-on projects throughout the MOOC, i.e., each week will require learners to write solutions to programming assignments that reinforce the material covered in the lecture videos. There will be roughly 4-6 hours of student engagement time per week, including video lectures, quizzes, and programming assignments.
