This course introduces students to data and statistics. By the end of the course, students should be able to interpret descriptive statistics, causal analyses and visualizations to draw meaningful insights.
The course first introduces a framework for thinking about the various purposes of statistical analysis. We’ll talk about how analysts use data for descriptive, causal and predictive inference. We’ll then cover how to develop a research study for causal analysis, compute and interpret descriptive statistics and design effective visualizations. The course will help you to become a thoughtful and critical consumer of analytics.
If you are in a field that increasingly relies on data-driven decision making, but you feel unequipped to interpret and evaluate data, this course will help you develop these fundamental tools of data literacy.

Clear Confluence navigation depends on intentional structure, not cleanup after the fact. In this short, hands-on course, learners explore how space and page design decisions affect discoverability, trust, and scalability in enterprise Confluence environments. Through realistic IT management scenarios, learners practice setting up a new Confluence Cloud site with program and team spaces, applying template packs to standardize project documentation, and designing navigation that supports fast onboarding.
The course then shifts to diagnosis and optimization, guiding learners through auditing an existing Confluence structure, identifying orphan pages, duplicated spaces, and abandoned projects, and proposing evidence-based reconfiguration plans suitable for PMO and leadership review. Designed for intermediate and advanced IT managers, Structure Confluence Spaces builds confidence in making governance-aware structure decisions that reduce friction, improve information access, and support cross-functional collaboration at scale.

This Teach-Out introduces learners to artificial intelligence (AI) and explains how large language models and generative AI tools, like ChatGPT, work. Explore the ethical use of artificial intelligence, the implications of authorship, and how these tools might be utilized and regulated moving forward.
Generative AI has developed rapidly over the last year and there is growing demand for a variety of AI tools, such as chatbots and visual media generators. For instance, ChatGPT launched in November 2022 in an effort to enhance natural language processing tasks like translation, text summarization, and text generation. Within five days of release, ChatGPT crossed 1 million users. By the two-month mark, it surpassed 100 million users.
Concerns regarding the ethical implications of generative AI’s usage are emerging, particularly in business and education. This Teach-Out brings together University of Michigan experts on communication technology, the economy, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, healthcare delivery, architecture, and law to discuss the impacts of generative AI now and into the future.
This Teach-Out will answer:
- What is generative AI and how does it work?
- What are the benefits and drawbacks of using generative AI?
- What are ethical and legal implications of using generative AI?
- How have society, the economy, and education responded to generative AI?
- How might generative AI be integrated into society moving forward?
- How can learners utilize generative AI in their lives?
